Cape Reinga
Cape Reinga is at the far tip of New Zealands North Island. As you look out over the sea, you can see and feel how spiritually important this area is to Maori. Cape Reinga is known by Maori as Te Rerenga Wairua, the leaping place of the spirits. The cape separates the Tasman Sea from the Pacific Ocean. From the lighthouse it is possible to watch the tidal race, as the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean clash to create unsettled waters just off the coast. If you look to the left of this shot you can see where the two waters meet, hence the disturbance in the water.
